Success with Spectrum’s Education Benefit Lands Julius on Stage to Inspire Others
When Julius M. joined Spectrum five years ago, he was looking to make a change from his life on the road as a truck driver.
Having started as a Regional Support Center Representative in Morrisville, NC, he’s has been able to grow in his career with Spectrum. Julius is now a National Field Support Representative in Tampa, and he credits his career growth to the skills and confidence he has been developing through our self-progression programs and our education benefit.
Recently, he stood in front of 1,000 people at Guild Gathers Live in Denver, CO, sharing how Spectrum’s education benefit has transformed his career. Guild Gathers Live is the all-hands meeting hosted by Guild, a leading talent development company that powers our education benefit. With more than 900 employees in attendance, the gathering is a time to align on their mission: unlocking opportunity for America’s workforce through education, skilling, and career mobility.
With Spectrum being a Guild partner since launching our new education benefit in 2023, the invitation to shine a spotlight on an employee who is embracing lifelong learning to continue growing their career was welcomed.
Julius always wanted to connect his passion for people with business results but didn’t yet have the skills needed to pursue leadership roles. That changed when our tuition-free degree program was introduced.
“I saw this as my chance to finally explore a career path I was truly interested in,” Julius said.
Though he hadn’t pursued a college degree before, Julius completed both the Frontline Managers and Leadership certificate programs through Guild. Successful completion of these programs gave him the confidence to begin working towards a bachelor's degree in Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness from the University of Denver – and he’s already planning his next step. “I’m more than halfway through the credits needed for my degree. Once I have that under my belt, I want to pursue a master's program. This opportunity has changed my life – I'm using these skills not just to advance in my career, but in my personal life too,” shared Julius.
As Guild Gathers Live kicked-off, Julius joined three other panelists from the healthcare and real estate industries to discuss how they’ve applied their learning on the job. The conversation touched on the importance of coaching and support, removing barriers to education, as well as the ripple effect of continuous learning.
“Hearing from the other panelists was incredibly inspiring,” said Julius. “Their stories showed me that real opportunities come from education. I want to keep growing so that I can help others reach their full potential.”
