Three Military Spouses Share How Spectrum Supports Them
Spectrum’s commitment to veterans extends beyond our veteran employees. It involves their spouses and families too. Military spouses are more than familiar with the sacrifices and commitments that come with being closely affiliated with the armed forces. At Spectrum, we recognize those sacrifices and strive to offer a supportive environment for our military spouse community.
We spoke to three of our employees to learn more about their experience as a military spouse and how they feel Spectrum supports them. Kate, Heidi, and Carmen share their perspectives below.
What is your role at Spectrum?
I am a Marketing and Creative Brand Strategy Manager. I work to ensure there is brand consistency across the company with both internal and external messaging.
How long have you been with Spectrum?
This October will be nine years!
How do you feel Spectrum shows up as a military friendly brand?
Nearly 10% of Spectrum employees are veterans. Spectrum takes great pride in implementing a military recruiting program and providing opportunities in the Field Technician function so veterans can be successful with their transferable skills as they move forward in the next phase of their lives, post-military.
Part of my role includes viewing and approving brand usage in videos that are posted to Spectrum’s intranet. Many times, I review videos that include military veterans who are now employees. It’s amazing to see some of their stories and experiences while serving our country and now, working at Spectrum in their civilian life. Their drive and passion are unmatched!
How has your experience been working for Spectrum as a military spouse?
Knowing the company I work for has such a strong support and commitment towards a community that directly impacts my life is so comforting. Not only does a solider make sacrifices but so does the family. I am very grateful knowing that I have the support from Spectrum if I ever needed it. Being a mom of almost two can be stressful, but I know when my husband has training and it happens to fall on a weekday, I have the understanding from my team that I will have added responsibility on my plate, and they work with me.

How do you feel Spectrum shows up as a military friendly brand?
Spectrum’s partnership with Hiring Our Heroes is one way we show up as a military friendly brand. Through this program, veterans and military affiliated candidates work with our Military Talent Attraction Recruiters to be connected to careers here through a fellowship program. So many skills developed in the military are transferrable to civilian careers and our recruiters do a great job of connecting candidates to opportunities where they will thrive. Additionally, Spectrum was recognized as one of Vet Indexes 2022 5 Star Employer and our LinkedIn page mentions military programs for veterans and showcases our veterans regularly.
What has your experience been working for Spectrum as a military spouse?
Simply put as a military spouse, I would not have been able to have 8 consecutive years with a company and grow my career without the support of Spectrum. Spectrum allowed me to continue to work here while my spouse was reassigned to different positions and bases. I was able to move and continue to grow my career with Spectrum. I was never able to do that until I started working here.
How does Spectrum support our military spouse employees?
Most military spouses change locations every 2-3 years and that also requires leaving a job/position/peers that help you have something of your own. This causes you to have to start over frequently and sometime pivot in your career choices depending on what is available where you move. Our Military Talent Attraction team has created a robust network and presence amongst military bases, and they work hard to connect employees to different Spectrum offices if they have to change locations. Words cannot express how thankful I am to have been able to continue in my career with Spectrum and to be supported by my leadership and peers. I feel like I belong and as a military spouse to have something outside of the military to call your own for your own identity it is hard to put into words.
What is your role at Spectrum?
I am a supervisor in the Retention department, and I lead a team of 14 agents. My role is to help my agents retain customers by providing a great experience and educating customers on how to save money while maintaining our services.

I have been with Spectrum for the last seven years.
