Ready to lead a high performing public cloud engineering team? As a Principal Engineer II, you will work to help the team prioritize, build, and ship the most impactful features to Spectrum’s customers and serve as a mentor to help guide and train other engineers on the team. This position will evaluate the needs, time limitations, and system limitations when developing software. This position must remain up to date on new technologies and software development practices and be able to translate these skills into the team’s deliverables. 


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Oversee complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents
  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary
  • Tests and review system designs
  • Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met
  • Mentor and guide the work of senior technical staff
  • Review work plans and designs and advise on improvements
  • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable
  • Know, understand and follow Spectrum policy

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s or bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience

Experience

  • 10+ years of engineering work experience 
  • 10+ years of project management work experience

Skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
  • Advanced knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology Advanced knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
  • Advanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations
  • Advanced knowledge of network devices, basic network appliances, and network designing software such as Visio
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly

Preferred Qualifications

Education

  • CCNP-DC
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)

Skills

  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications.
  • Systems knowledge (Linux)
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Work as Solutions Architects to translate high-level designs into detailed engineering plans and configurations
  • Storage Administration experience with both SAN, NAS and Block & File Storage Protocols.
  • Working knowledge on virtualized (VNFs) and cloud-native (CNFs) core network functions on various platforms (e.g., KVM, VMware, Kubernetes/OpenShift)
  • Compute architectures and application optimization experience
  • Working experience with Network Protocols such as BGP, IGP and Firewalls
  • Experience with Cisco UCS platforms preferred.
  • Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot complex technical issues, working closely with vendors and internal teams for resolution
  • Support network trials and proof-of-concepts (PoCs)
  • Provide expert-level support for operational issues, including incident resolution and root cause analysis
  • Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including configuration guides, MOPs (Method of Procedure)
  • Experience working with automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Python, Bash, etc
  • Experience working with Containerization services such as Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Working experience with public and private multicloud environments
  • Experience working with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Datadog and Splunk
  • Working experience with yaml , json and xml.
  • Basic Knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model.
  • Expert knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
  • Expert knowledge of software designing tools, such as Visio and Lucid.
  • Experience with Network Hardening – Security & Compliance preferred
  • Working knowledge with Cyber Security frameworks
  • Working knowledge with CI/CD pipelines
  • Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, self-prioritize, and analyze the scope of a large project and all dependencies
  • Ability to be a problem solver and drive results
  • Ability to use the following office equipment telephone, copier, fax, and calculator.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The base pay for this position generally is between $124,000.00 and $220,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
