BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

Together with the Spectrum Networks Engineering team, the Sr. Broadcast Engineer will implement and provide live and previously generated News and/or Sports programming to cable customers. This role will be responsible for setting up, configuring, maintaining, diagnosing, and operating a wide range of broadcast systems and equipment. It may also be responsible for delegating these tasks. You are an essential part of a collaborative team that produces compelling, timely, and accurate newscasts intended to engage and connect with our local audience.

  • Working with suppliers or other engineering staff to implement system updates and version upgrades and resolve equipment problems.
  • Engaging in a structured incident quick response procedure for high-priority problems and be able to make judgments that are essential to restoring network functionality.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM NEWS

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Experience as a Maintenance or Broadcast Engineer - 5+ years
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Technical skills: Broadcast equipment knowledge/experience at the senior level should include Routing Switchers, Production Switchers, Studio Cameras, Newsroom Systems, Production Automation, Master Control Systems, Digital Asset Management Systems, Terminal Equipment, Encoders, Decoders, Video Test & Measurement, Media Recorders, Video Servers, and Postproduction
  • Skills: Subject matter expert in at least two of the following areas: Studio Production, Master Control, Camera, Robotics and Tally, Transmission, Newsroom Systems, Remote Productions and/or remote sites, Post-Production and/or Long Form Edit, Digital Asset Management Systems and Media Storage Systems.
  • Abilities: Ability to apply terminations/connectors to various types of network cables such as coaxial, twisted pair, and optical fiber cables that carry SDI video, AES audio, RF and IP signals. Connector Types include BNC, N, F, RJ-45, and D-sub-miniature
  • Schedule: Ability to work different shifts or longer shifts due to “breaking news” and severe weather emergencies, ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Valid driver’s license for authorized driving in the State of residence

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications:

  • SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) - CBTE, CBNE
  • FCC General Class License
  • Network – CCNA

Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other issues that may arise. This includes but is not limited to severe weather emergencies.
  • Must be able and willing to work various shifts, longer shifts, weekends and holidays, and be flexible with schedule changes due to "breaking news", and/or severe weather emergencies.
  • Travel: 15% where applicable
