VP, Plant Maintenance
The VP, Plant Maintenance will establish and develop a corporate plant maintenance team of advanced field engineering plant managers that work in the field with Field Operations and Network Operations senior leadership, and maintenance technicians, to identify and address plant issues driving poor performance. This role will develop, evaluate, and implement node remediation and preventive maintenance programs in areas with low performing Node Health scores. This position will also work with Region leadership and field personnel to improve Node Health to >98% across Charter’s footprint.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Identify, develop, and implement Node Remediation Projects targeting nodes/hubs with low Node Health scores across our footprint.
- Support the Region teams with plans to improve plant performance in areas that are not meeting metric goals. Ensure the management area executes the plan to improve through tracking and regular review meetings.
- Build a strong team of plant maintenance managers to ensure all plant performance goals are met.
- Function as a liaison between Field Engineering and Network Operations senior leadership to resolve plant issues.
- Provide Plant Optimization assistance for Region Field Operations.
- Review and evaluate Engineering Notebooks for the regions detailing the correct set up procedures for all plant equipment in the region.
- Ensure all design specifications for the plant are understood, documented, and implemented by the maintenance teams.
- Develop project scope, plans, and schedules to improve plant performance and meet regularly with Region senior leadership to review progress and establish goals.
- Assist in implementation of new project initiatives (High-Split, DAA, FTTP, CBRS).
- Implement Preventive Plant Maintenance Plan consistent with corporate guidance.
- Develop/implement reporting to track progress and status of the goals of the Node Remediation plan.
- Meet regularly with the ROC to review performance criteria and metrics and ensure standard corporate process/procedures are followed.
- Function as liaison between the ROC and Field Engineering senior leadership.
- Leverage national data and reports to provide analysis reflecting plant readiness accomplishments and opportunities as requested.
- Participate in the annual budgeting process and re-forecasting process in closely managing capital resources targeted for plant readiness improvements.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Ability to communicate in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
Advanced knowledge of company products and services
Advanced Knowledge of HFC and FTTH networks
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to supervise and motivate others
Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Demonstrated understanding of preventive maintenance principles and balance between preventive and demand maintenance activities
High level working knowledge of network monitoring tools primarily Lighthouse
Understanding of DOCSIS principles, modem and set top box topology in accessing and utilizing telemetry data for monitoring and troubleshooting purposes
Ability to train field engineers in HFC network digital impairment characteristics, FEC, MER, CPD, and other mechanical and electrical impairments and corrections
Demonstrated working experience in developing, reporting, and managing to operational metrics
Engineering level expertise in cable HFC optical nodes, including optimization and certification, configuration, forward and reverse sweeping theoretical and practical activities
Expertise in plant mechanical and electrical integrity in terms of signal leakage and CLI
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
Engineering or technical experience – 15+ Plant/system maintenance experience – 15+ Project management experience – 10+

Relevant industry and vendor – specific certifications and training

Fieldwork necessary to observe first- hand the Maintenance Teams strengths/weaknesses and plant performance.
